The University of New Mexico Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department (CCB) has begun the process to post for the position of Director of its mass spectrometry facility “MSF“ (https://massspec.unm.edu). The MSF services CCB as well as departments across UNM with MALDI-MS, GC-MS, and LC-MS instrumentation. The Director keeps the instrumentation running, trains students, and develops methods for a wide variety organic, bio-organic, and metallo-organic samples. Interfacing with local businesses and other government entities is encouraged. The department has just hired 2 new faculty in organic and materials chemistry and anticipates hiring another organic-focused faculty next year. The position is funded by UNM (not soft $) and participation in grant-writing and development of proposals with faculty is encouraged. The Director also manages/trains student employees.
The salary listed is only an example and will change based on qualifications and experience level of candidate.
I will be at ASMS and can discuss the position and facility further with interested parties, and will follow-up once the posting is finalized and publicly posted.

Troubleshoot (and prevent) contamination and hardware/software issues. Experience required using Waters LC/MS and desired also for MALDI-MS and GC-MS. Abilities to manage operations, develop training materials and train students, and perform exact mass measurements are necessary to succeed in this position.
