Description
The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for the Endowed Chair in Radiation Oncology. This tenure-track position represents a transformative opportunity to expand the College's leadership in precision radiation therapy, comparative oncology, and translational cancer science.
This endowed position is part of a group hire designed to catalyze interdisciplinary research and advance the continued growth of oncology research and advanced clinical care at the CVM. While rooted in radiation oncology, the position is intended for a collaborative and innovative leader who will work across disciplinary boundaries, build and lead interdisciplinary teams, and draw on perspectives from related, complementary, and non-traditional fields to advance radiation therapy, cancer research, and clinical care.
The endowed chair will provide strategic leadership in developing innovative approaches to radiation oncology and foster partnerships across engineering, cancer biology, medical physics, data science, human health sciences, and industry. The successful candidate will develop a world-class program integrating advanced clinical care, cutting-edge research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. They will demonstrate adaptability and resilience in an evolving extramural funding environment, with a strong record—or clear potential—for successful grantsmanship and development of an innovative, externally funded research program. The position is intended to attract extramural funding, establish new partnerships, and advance the College’s leadership in precision oncology and comparative cancer research. The successful candidate will also engage state, clinical, industry, and community partners to address high-impact research questions and translate discoveries into meaningful clinical and societal impact.

Responsibilities
Research (50-60%)
Develop an independent, sustainable, nationally recognized research program.
Lead multidisciplinary research initiatives involving veterinary medicine, human medicine, engineering, physics, and/or data sciences.
Pursue federal, foundation, and industry funding opportunities and assist in developing philanthropic resources to support radiation oncology research and clinical trials.
Build collaborative infrastructure supporting translational and comparative oncology research.
Advance innovative technologies that improve cancer diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes.
Clinical Service (20-30%)
Provide advanced radiation oncology services within the Veterinary Medical Center.
Advance clinical innovation through technology adoption and evaluation.
Develop and participate in clinical research and clinical trials.
Teaching and Mentorship (15-25%)
Participate in professional and graduate education programs.
Mentor residents, graduate students, and junior faculty.
Support development of future leaders in oncology and translational science.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes a generous fringe benefits package.
Salary Ranges
Associate Professor: $170,000 - $200,000
Full Professor: $180,000 - $210,000

Requirements
Required Qualifications
DVM, VMD, MD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree.
Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in a tenure-track position at the University of Minnesota.
Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement, including peer-reviewed publications.
Evidence of an independent research program with potential for or demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding.
Evidence of successful extramural funding from federal agencies, foundations, industry, or other external sources.
Demonstrated excellence in radiation oncology clinical practice.
Commitment to teaching and mentoring veterinary students, residents, graduate students, and/or postdoctoral scholars.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Minnesota.
Preferred Qualifications
National or international recognition in radiation oncology, comparative oncology, radiation biology, medical physics, or related disciplines.
Board certification (or eligibility for certification) in Radiation Oncology (ACVR-Radiation Oncology or equivalent).
Expertise in one or more strategic areas including:
o Precision radiation oncology
o Radiation biology
o Medical physics
o Quantitative imaging and radiomics
o Artificial intelligence-assisted treatment planning
o Molecular imaging and theranostics
o Comparative oncology
o Biomarker discovery
o Translational cancer therapeutics
Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary, team-based research programs.
Experience collaborating across medicine, engineering, physics, data sciences, public health, or biological sciences.
Evidence of developing innovative clinical programs or technology-enabled healthcare delivery models.
Experience establishing or leading clinical trials and translational research initiatives.
Demonstrated commitment to mentoring future clinician-scientists and research leaders.
Experience building strategic partnerships with academic, clinical, government, and industry collaborators.
