Description
The Department of Biological Sciences in the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wichita State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biomedical Sciences. We seek applicants with teaching and research expertise in the fields of Microbiology, Virology, Genetics, and/or Parasitology. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop a productive research program, and provide service to the university and profession. This position is a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2, 2027.
The Department of Biological Sciences offers majors in Biology with either an Ecological/Environmental/Organismal or a Biomedical emphasis. There are approximately 340 undergraduate majors and the department’s Master of Science in Biology program currently includes 19 graduate students. There are 11 faculty members and seven full-time departmental support staff/administrators. The department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and student success. The department is an affiliate of the Kansas Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (K-INBRE). It houses modern laboratory spaces that include analytical/molecular and cell culture equipment, microscopy and protein chemistry core facilities, an accredited animal facility, and access to high performance computing clusters.
Requirements
PhD in Biology or related field, completed prior to August 2027. Teaching experience broadly defined i.e. teaching assistantship, mentoring, participation in course lectures. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred, but strong candidates lacking postdoctoral experience will be considered.
