UTMB Health is a billion-dollar health science center comprised of four schools (the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the School of Health Professions, and the School of Nursing), three institutes and over 10 exceptional research centers. Our hospitals and clinics serve patients during approximately 700,000 annual clinical visits and 29,000 hospital admissions, serving patients from 190 counties across the State of Texas. UTMB Health is committed to achieving excellence in each of its educational, research, clinical care, and community outreach missions, and has accumulated approximately $300 million in institutional endowed funds. The campus occupies over 100 acres on Galveston Island, a historic and charming island located on the sunny Southeast Texas Coast. UTMB Health currently employs approximately 12,000 faculty, staff and students, making it one of the top twenty employers in the Houston-Galveston metropolitan area. UTMB continues to rank nationally in its research endeavors, with two School of Medicine departments ranked in the top 10 and seven School of Medicine departments ranked among the top 25 nationally National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. Again this year, UTMB has nine faculty ranked in the top 50 among NIH-funded investigators, and five of those are in the top 20. The School of Health Professions ranks eighth among its peers in NIH funding.
