Description
DescriptionThe Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab at Southern Illinois University is seeking a Lead Researcher to supervise a variety of tasks and projects.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
- Lead logistics, hire staffs, and provide training on various field efforts including white-tailed deer and other mammals captures.
- This position will be responsible for hiring, training and supervising several teams of technicians and student workers, often involving over 20 temporary staff yearly.
- The Lead Researcher will also lead and train teams conducting fieldwork associated to white-tailed deer captures and monitoring. The candidate will also be overseeing all the other logistics associated to this fieldwork, including securing lodging, vehicles, equipment, and organizing data.
- Manage equipment and inventories.
- Supervise student workers and technicians involve in data processing such as camera trapping.
- Assist with general project management including data management and processing, hiring, project reporting, and other general project logistics.
- Assist in data analyses and writing.
- Collaborate with partners at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and US Department of Agriculture.
- The candidate will work directly under the supervision of Dr. Guillaume Bastille-Rousseau.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Wildlife Ecology, Conservation Biology, or a closely related field with additional experience in wildlife project management and supervision.
- Direct experience with white-tailed deer capture.
- Ability to perform fieldwork in difficult settings
- Previous experience with GIS
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Previous experience with reporting and scientific publications
- Motivated, organized and with an excellent work ethic
- Leadership skills including ability to supervise technicians and students
- Valid driver's license
