UPCI Basic Research Administration - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25006794)
The primary function of this role is to use training in biochemistry, molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology, or a closely related field to design and execute experiments related to a research project in the lab investigating mechanisms of tumor resistance to radiation therapy. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary experimental therapeutic group with a focus on translational research with a direct application to clinical research questions. The project will be investigating the effect of tumor metabolism on tumor cell and microenvironment mediated resistance to radiation therapy.
Primary duties include collecting and assembling of data for oral and written presentation. Developing scientific hypotheses related to ongoing work in the laboratory. Designing experiments to test hypotheses with input from PI, using techniques of molecular biology and biochemistry, including western blotting, qRT-PCR, molecular cloning, tissue culture, and flow cytometry. Analyzing results. Performing survival surgeries on mice and maintaining mouse colonies. Performing routine and more difficult procedures
Candidates must have a bachelors in biochemistry, molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated in performing translational cancer biology research, design and see through independent projects to completion, through publication and presentation of findings. Experience in utilizing mouse models of cancer, molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics will be highly valued.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Essential Functions
Must be able to perform routine and more difficult procedures, analyzes data and coherently presents results in the form of presentations, abstracts, manuscripts and the basis for grant writing, preparation and submission with PI supervision.
Physical Effort
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
