The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary
The Research Professional will oversee research focused on the investigation of infectious and non-infectious molecular disease pathogenesis. Duties include design, performance, data collection, and analysis of experiments; using molecular methods (e.g., immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, nucleic acid extraction, PCR , cell culture) and digital pathology platforms (e.g., QuPath, HALO ); training of graduate, veterinary, and undergraduate students; laboratory management (organization, ordering, maintaining stock solutions, etc.); and presentation of findings in lab meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred
- Experience in animal handling (rodent, amphibian), observation, necropsy, and tissue collection preferred
- Molecular pathology techniques - immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization
- Molecular biology techniques - PCR , RT-qPCR, protein extraction, nucleic acid extraction, electrophoresis
- Cell culture techniques - aseptic cell culture techniques, cell culture maintenance
- Computer skills - Use of spreadsheets for calculations, inventory, and budget, image analysis programs (Image J, QuPath, HALO ), statistical software packages (Prism, SPSS , or SAS ), and data analysis software (R or MatLab)

Reproducibility of data and clear presentation of data will be a measure of success.

Maintain and organize lab spaces, including but not limited to organizing for required lab safety inspections, maintaining a clean, safe, stocked lab; autoclaving; glass washing; equipment maintenance; ensuring the laboratory is in compliance with UGA guidelines, safely disposing of chemical waste, sharps, and biohazardous materials; maintains CHEMATIX inventory; ordering supplies for laboratory and lab students.
