Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Department of Psychiatry - Child and Adolescent Division with the National Center for School Mental Health has an exciting opportunity for a Research Project Coordinator. The Research Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of research studies in the department. The position coordinates data maintenance, grant expenditure adherence, project evaluation, meeting scheduling, and research subject interfacing. Serves as a point of contact for study participants, research personnel and support staff. Adheres to good clinical practices, study protocols, and applicable regulations. The Research Project Coordinator conducts complex work and contributes to measurable team objectives. Uses discretion to provide solutions to issues. Performs work that is varied and that does not follow prescribed procedures or processes and is responsible for effective operations and use of resources, rather than clinical outcomes.
The mission of the National Center for School Mental Health (NCSMH) is to strengthen policies and programs in school mental health to improve learning and promote success for America's youth. From its inception in 1995, the Center's leadership and interdisciplinary staff has promoted the importance of providing mental health services to children, adolescents, and families directly in schools and communities. The selected candidate will perform duties that support the mission and vision of the department.

Primary Duties:
- Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of research studies in the department. The position coordinates data maintenance, grant expenditure adherence, project evaluation, meeting scheduling, and research subject interfacing. Serve as a point of contact for study participants, research personnel and support staff. Adheres to good clinical practices, study protocols, and applicable regulations. Conduct complex work and contribute to measurable team objectives. Use discretion to provide solutions to issues. Perform work that is varied and that does not follow prescribed procedures or processes and is responsible for effective operations and use of resources, rather than clinical outcomes.
- Recruit and screen participants in a research study, and coordinate research study activities with community and program partners. Collect data from a variety of participants. Develop recruitment streams through doctor's offices, community clinics, and other sources. May advise participants of risks and
benefits and gain their consent. - Lead the collection and management of study data. May supervise others who perform data entry.
- As appropriate, file forms and reports for Human or Animal protections, the Office of Research and Development, or other campus entities.
- Perform or schedule interviews.
- Develop and/or produce reports of study data. May participate in publications or grant applications.
- Assist Principal Investigator in development of budget, expenditure adherence, and financial reporting.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Sociology, Psychology, Nursing or another scientific discipline appropriate to position required.
Experience: Prior experience in research preferred.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices in research protocols and procedures.
- Ability to understand general accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ability to gain knowledge and meet the reporting needs of UMB policies and practices for Institutional Review, Human Protections, etc.
- Skill in communicating efficiently and effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of people both internally and externally.
- Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services and processes.
- Skill in relevant PC applications.
- Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
Hiring Range: $48,000 - $53,000, commensurate with education and experience.
