Position Information

Bachelor's degree in a related field of science and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in microbial, molecular analysis and diagnostic analysis of poultry for poultry associated diseases.
Position Summary
The incumbent will manage all aspects of the research as it pertains to molecular microbiology and disease modeling, including coordination of challenge studies, oversight of personnel (temporary personnel and student workers), sample collection and processing, testing, analysis and verification of results. The incumbent will be responsible for implementation and maintenance of quality control protocols for all lab processes, management of data, and preparation of reports.
Expertise in microbiology of avian diseases, necropsy, analysis and diagnosis of birds is essential.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Experience in microbial analysis, necropsy of poultry and diagnosis and ability to write and report on the research.
Experience in diagnosis and analysis of focal duodenal necrosis is essential.

Handling poultry and long hours standing
Handling feed bags (30-50 lbs)

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Responsible for the daily management and oversight of challenge trials. Coordinates microbial analysis and preparation of challenge strains, handles and monitors birds, and administers poultry challenge.

Oversees and directs necropsy, sample collection, and tissue section preparation for processing.

Coordinates testing workflow. Analyzes samples from necropsy using culture, histopathology, and microbial and molecular methods including PCR.

Responsible for maintaining a complete and detailed record of all data generated. Organizes and interprets data, verifies results, and prepares reports for transmission to PI. Presentation of data/ results to funding agency.

Reviews current and new laboratory protocols for analysis of samples, validates diagnostic tests, and streamlines diagnostic processes. Designs, implements, and verifies quality control procedures for all laboratory processes.
Supervises laboratory personnel in all lab processes; ensures accuracy and efficiency in testing procedures and a safe laboratory environment in accordance with laboratory and university guidelines.
