Regional Chair of Pathology
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai affiliated with New York City Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and New York City Health + Hospitals/Queens has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Chairperson of Pathology. Our Pathology Department offers a full spectrum of services including Regional Anatomic Pathology including all subspecialties of Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology and Autopsy Pathology, extensive Inhouse Immunohistochemistry and In Situ Hybridization, and outside referrals for Molecular Pathology, serving the Cancer Centers at Elmhurst and Queens Hospitals. Each hospital has its own Clinical Pathology Laboratory, including Blood Bank, Chemistry and Hematology, with modern state of the art instrumentation. Elmhurst also counts with a fully equipped UpToDate PCR, Mass Spectrometry and culture-based Microbiology Laboratory.
The Pathology Department is staffed by 10 pathologists with diverse subspecialty expertise, active in daily sign out, intradepartmental daily multiheaded microscope conference, medical student teaching and various weekly multidisciplinary Tumor Boards, such as thoracic, breast and general surgery conferences. The hospital is easily accessible by public transportation and car from all areas of New York City, New Jersey and Long Island.
The prospective candidate is expected to provide leadership and oversee operations of the Pathology Department including supervision of staff and with respect to patient safety and quality of operations, and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements of AABB, NYDOH, CAP and other regulatory agencies. The Chairperson of Pathology is actively involved in Pathologists’ professional development, retention and recruitment.
Candidates must have an MD or DO degree and be Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology or Combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with a valid New York State License, DEA and Medicaid number. Qualified candidates should have strong clinical abilities, teaching experience, communication and interpersonal skills. Prior management/leadership positions and experience with academic medical centers and/or public health systems are preferred.
We offer a faculty appointment with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai commensurate with credentials, experience and qualifications. This is an excellent opportunity to join a multidisciplinary leadership team working with a diverse patient population in a major clinical and training institution. Base compensation for this role is $325,000 and benefits include up to 10% employer retirement contribution, 403b and 457b retirement plans, 30 days of paid vacation, 30 paid sick days and 13 paid holidays, as well as optional health benefits.
