Description
Job DescriptionAn NIH-funded postdoctoral position is open in the laboratory of Dr. Roger Bannister at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The successful candidate will drive one of two major projects in the laboratory: 1) understanding how altered plasma membrane excitability contributes to muscle atrophy and the loss of motor units in aging and neuromuscular disease (e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; ALS), and 2) using heterologous systems and zebrafish models to study CACNA1A mutations that result in molecular, synaptic and behavioral defects and to screen for effective drug therapies to combat these and other CaV2.1 channelopathies. In addition, the successful candidate will be given opportunity to develop an independent research program.
This position is projected to begin in March 2020 or shortly thereafter. Qualified individuals should apply to this posting and attach a cover letter, CV and names of three references. Specific inquiries should be directed to Dr. Bannister: RBannister@som.umaryland.edu.
