Med-Microbiology and Molecular Genetics - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25006108)
The newly established lab of Caitlin Stoddard in the Center for Vaccine Research and the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate.
The incumbent will provide research support related to combining molecular, genetic, and structural approaches to understand host-virus interactions. The research questions will span a range of themes, from innate immune mechanisms of viral restriction, mechanistic dissection of host effector activity, and high-throughput antiviral gene discovery. Work will include experiments performed in Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 and 3 environments with routine work in the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL).
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, designing and conducting independent studies; analyzing, preparing and presenting data; performing advanced imaging and molecular biology techniques; maintaining tissue culture lines and generating primary cell cultures; independently initiating and troubleshooting research protocols; supervising and training other professional research personnel in specialized techniques; operating and maintaining laboratory equipment; maintaining thorough documentation of laboratory results and ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies.
This position requires successful completion of Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federal regulations, as well as a Suitability Assessment for work with Tier I pathogens. This position is eligible for an RBL Premium Payment. A PhD degree in Microbiology, Virology, or a related field is required.
