The Williams Lab (www.williamslabpitt.com) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to develop an NIH-funded project at the intersection of tumor metabolism and immunity. We are affiliated with the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and located at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Campus.
The candidate will be expected to work independently to advance a project that tests the impact of tumor heme metabolism on suppressive T cells in breast cancer liver metastasis. Previous experience designing, managing, and analyzing in vivo experiments is a plus. Training will be provided in established animal procedures to model breast cancer liver metastasis.
Initiative-taking applicants who are interested in simultaneously developing highly relevant human-derived models to assess tumor cell-immune interactions are encouraged to apply. The applicant should be able to learn quickly, complete tasks efficiently, collaborate with other research groups, and mentor other scientists in the Williams lab. The candidate must have previous experience in the cancer biology, tumor immunology, or cellular metabolism fields and have advanced communication and organizational skills, allowing them to orchestrate project planning, management, and dissemination of results as presentations or manuscripts under the direction of Dr. Williams. The candidate should be detail-oriented and will be expected to develop a competitive proposal and apply for fellowship funding from relevant mechanisms.
Job Summary: Works independently to perform a variety of complex experiments to test the impact of heme metabolism on suppressive T cells in breast cancer metastasis. Collaborates with and mentors other scientists. Executes assay development, experimentation, data analysis, visualization, presentation, and manuscript preparation. Keeps an accurate and timely laboratory notebook and experimental records. Assists with laboratory protocols, relevant paperwork, and upkeep of lab supplies and equipment.
Qualifications: 
Requirements are: Doctorate in Cancer Biology or Immunology, 5 or more years of experience/exposure in cancer biology, tumor immunology, or cellular metabolism. Strong ability to communicate with and work as a member of a team. Previous experience with rodents is preferred. Interest in honing project management and creative scientific problem-solving skills.
