Position Information

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This will be a Research Technician position at the Research and Development (R&D) Lab from the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (AVDL). Besides the R&D lab, the technician will rotate among different sections of the AVDL and provide assistance in bacteriology, mycology, virology, and molecular diagnostics, and sample receiving.
The R&D research team focuses on developing new assays and diagnostic workflows to diagnose bacterial, viral, and fungal infections in animals and humans. The laboratory technician's primary duties are to help plan, organize, and conduct research in support of the mentioned research fields and provide technical training to students and volunteers in the lab. The individual will assist with various tasks, including managing day-to-day operations, data collection and processing, data analyses, and providing service support to other sections of the AVDL as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Biological science focus or equivalent training and related experience.
- Excellent manual dexterity.
- Lift up to 50lbs.

R&D - AVDL
- Conducting and analyzing experiments in the laboratory.
- Development and validation of new diagnostic assays and platforms.
- Provide training to students/technicians.
- Perform quality assurance/quality control assessment of data sets.
- General lab maintenance.
AVDL - Diagnostic services
- Perform mycology diagnostic test procedures.
- On an as-needed basis, provide assistance on sample accessioning, processing and diagnostic testing for the detection of bacterial, viral, and fungal animal diseases in different laboratory sections at the AVDL.
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of results through strict quality control and proficiency testing programs.
- Provide professional client communication to veterinarians.
AVDL- Administration
- Perform other duties as delegated by the AVDL Management
