Job Summary The Infection Preventionist 1 works under the Infection Prevention Manager's supervision. They implement and review the facility's infection prevention program. They ensure standards and guidelines from professional organizations and agencies are included. They also serve as a resource for infection prevention issues for all facility personnel. Essential Functions of the Role * Implements infection prevention strategies to prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents, applying epidemiologic values and evidence-based guidelines * Conducts on-going surveillance using Centers for Disease Control (CDC) infection criteria * Reports patients with communicable diseases to the appropriate health authority * Monitors compliance with national standards and bodies like JC, CDC, OSHA, and FDA through observations, audits, and other methods. * Provides education to increase employee awareness of existence of healthcare-associated infections * Participates in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare-associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis * Partners with teams to create, educate, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention strategies, as well as provide feedback * Participates in educational activities, professional meetings, and peer networking.
