Position Responsibilities
Research Environment
The Department of Immunology has 32 faculty and is part of a larger interactive community of nearly 100 faculty. It supports a graduate training program, two training grants, a weekly seminar series, retreats, and other programming that connects basic, translational, and clinical immunologists. The department ranks sixth in the U.S. and ninth worldwide (Research.com) and second in the U.S. for NIH funding when grouped with Microbiology and Virology (Blue Ridge). The University of Pittsburgh ranks seventh in the U.S. for NIH funding.
The department also hosts CSI, which focuses on the analysis and engineering of molecular and cellular networks underlying immune processes in health and disease. CIPE will be established in partnership with HCC, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center rated exceptional in its last review. The department moved in 2022 to a state-of-the-art research facility housed in a historically registered building and has broadly used cores for flow cytometry and CRISPR-Cas9-mediated model-system development.
Resources and Location
The successful candidate will receive a named, endowed chair; a generous lab start-up package commensurate with rank and achievements; and resources to recruit two junior faculty and establish the CIPE core. Space will be provided on the Shadyside campus near the Department of Immunology within HCC. Salary and benefits will be highly competitive. Pitt is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a strong research community and extensive cultural and public institutions.
