Description

Spend this summer gaining valuable experience as an Activity Staff at Camp Ondessonk. Situated on 983 acres adjacent to the Shawnee National Forest, Camp Ondessonk is a Catholic Youth Camp serving children ages 8-16. As an Activity Staff, you will spend the summer working and learning daily in your area to instruct campers in a specific activity. Positions are available in archery, challenge (high and low ropes), Council (faith encounter), Handicrafts, Nature, Woodscraft (Outdoor Living Skills), and Riflery. Leadership positions in these areas are also available.

Camp Ondessonk also has a robust Aquatic and Equestrian program. Please see our other posts if you would prefer to work as a lifeguard or with the horses.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 17 years of age
• Flexibility, good work ethic and discipline, and solid communication skills

Specific Activity Area Preferred Qualifications:

Archery

• Comfortability and experience handling bows and arrows
• USA Archery Instructor Level 1 (or higher)

Challenge

• Comfortability working at height with proper safety gear
• ACCT Level 1 (or higher)

Council

• Educational background in Theology and/or Religious Studies or experience in teaching those subjects
•  Should have an active participation in a Catholic parish or ministry.
• Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Mass

Handicrafts

• Basic proficiency in camp-related crafts (i.e. boondoggle, gods-eyes, friendship bracelets, etc.)

Nature and Woodscraft

• Educational background in Ecology, Botany, Biology, and/or Geology preferred
• Able to hike for extended periods and carry up to 50 pounds
• LNT instructor
• Certified Nature Interpreter
• WFR or WFA

Riflery

• Comfortability and experience handling firearms
• FOID card
• NRA Safety Certification
